Happy 10/10: NFT Marketplaces, OTC 2.0, Protocols 4.1 and more!
AirSwap celebrates its sixth anniversary with custom NFT marketplaces, OTC 2.0, Protocols 4.1 on 8 EVMs, and a brand new member dashboard — all wrapped in a beautiful new website at https://www.airswap.io.
A lot happens over the years: innovation, iteration, and changes in course. Launched and stewarded by a startup and now as a development community, AirSwap demonstrates that self-sustaining open-source software can be a powerful and effective model for Web3.
AirSwap launched the original peer-to-peer DEX on October 10th, 2017. As one of the first on Ethereum, it’s now proven itself as an open-source DAO — and is still shipping. As of today, the DAO has delivered:
- $3.7B in volume and $3M in fees (100% distributed to community)
- 30+ individual contributors working on 10+ open-source codebases
- 350+ staked voters and 90+ proposals to shape and steer the project

NFT marketplaces — fully customized
AirSwap NFT Marketplaces is a completely new product, offering custom decentralized NFT marketplaces powered by AirSwap. Community administrators can download, configure, and deploy a marketplace with minimal setup, enabling communities to manage their own decentralized trading destination on the web.
NFT Marketplaces is released into beta today with a testnet demo available at https://marketplace-demo.airswap.eth.limo/. To get started as a community admin, see the Marketplace Admin Guide.
OTC 2.0: Direct peer-to-peer swaps
New and improved OTC (“over the counter”) trading is now live on the AirSwap web app, modernizing one of AirSwap’s earliest peer-to-peer (P2P) offerings. AirSwap OTC has seen some of the largest trades in DeFi including a $30.7M OTC swap in 2021.
With OTC integrated into the primary DEX frontend, traders now have a single destination for secure and trustless P2P trading.

Brand new member dashboard
We’ve released a new member dashboard to support 350+ active staking members who participate in shaping and steering the project. With staking, voting, and claiming functionality, the dashboard is the new home on the web for AirSwap members. Over 32M AST has been staked to the DAO since the initial launch in 2021.

Protocols 4.1: Efficient and extensible
We’ve released improvements the recent V4 release. Protocols 4.1 provides atomic swap, counterparty discovery, and incentive primitives that can be easily built on, supporting several trading protocols and a formal service discovery process, which have driven over $3.7B in volume since 2021 with $3M+ in fees distributed to the community.
The following have been developed, tested, and analyzed for this release and independently audited by PeckShield.
- Pool: Withdrawable token pool to support voter rewards. (Audit, Audit)
- Registry: Server discovery by supported protocols and tokens. (Audit)
- SwapERC20: Even more efficient ERC20 token swaps. (Audit)

2024: A shift to growth
AirSwap has been laser-focused on peer-to-peer trading technology since 2017. The project is recognized by the St. Louis Fed, MIT Technology Review, Stanford Journal on Blockchain Law and Privacy, among others, cementing its position as the leading peer-to-peer protocol.
As we turn the year on today’s new foundation, expect a shift to growth — attention toward integrations and adoption—as more trading firms enter the space, aggregators come online, and NFT communities take the power into their own hands with decentralized marketplaces.
