As we wrap up 2023 we reflect on another excellent year as an open developer community. Now in its sixth year since launch, AirSwap continues its journey as the RFQ and OTC trading network of choice. Join us to explore the highlights of 2023 and catch a glimpse of what lies ahead.
In 2023 our contributor crew came together for another year of product development and delivery. Introducing new core protocols and several new apps built upon them, AirSwap continues to prove that self-sustaining open source development is achievable — and while having fun along the way.
By the Numbers
AirSwap saw $1.2B+ in trading volume from 200K+ unique users as the AirSwap V4 protocols drove integrations and trading across 9 EVM chains including Ethereum, Linea, Base, BSC, Polygon, and Arbitrum. Community participants were rewarded with $800K+ in protocol fees.
Breaking new ground
To celebrate the AirSwap launch anniversary on October 10th, we introduced custom NFT marketplaces, OTC 2.0 (over-the-counter trading), Protocols V4.1 across 9 EVMs, and a fresh member dashboard — all presented through a stunning new website.
Protocols V4
For our annual protocols release we introduced AirSwap V4 and a followup V4.1 with the ability to communicate and consume liquidity automatically and efficiently. We took advantage of these new use cases, protocols, and contracts, by introducing custom community marketplaces, searchable bulletin boards, and opening the door to deep and efficient integrations.
NFT marketplaces
AirSwap NFT Marketplaces is a completely new product, offering custom decentralized NFT marketplaces powered by AirSwap. Community administrators can download, configure, and deploy a marketplace with minimal setup, enabling communities to manage their own decentralized trading destination on the web.

OTC 2.0
New and improved OTC (“over the counter”) trading is now live on the AirSwap web app, modernizing one of AirSwap’s earliest peer-to-peer (P2P) offerings. AirSwap OTC has seen some of the largest trades in DeFi including a $30.7M OTC swap in 2021. With OTC integrated into the primary DEX frontend, traders now have a single destination for secure and trustless P2P trading.

Member dashboard
We’ve released a new member dashboard to support 450+ active staking members who participate in steering the project. With staking, voting, and claiming functionality, the dashboard is the new home on the web for AirSwap members. Over 37M AST has been staked to the DAO since the initial launch in 2021.

A thriving global community
AirSwap contributors and community participated in 10 major conferences, including Paris Blockchain Week, ETHZurich, NFT NYC, DEVCON, ETH Belgrade, ETHPrague, ETHCC, Permissionless, Token2049, and Devconnect. Our participation in these events resulted in new integrations with additional frontends and helped onboard new market makers to our permissionless network. We eagerly look forward to building an even stronger community in 2024.

We organized three awesome in-person contributor meetups in Amsterdam, Berlin, and Paris — the latter commemorating the 6th anniversary of AirSwap.
Celebrating 6 years
AirSwap launched the original peer-to-peer DEX on October 10th, 2017. As one of the first on Ethereum, it’s now proven itself as an open-source DAO — and is still shipping. A lot happens over the years: innovation, iteration, and changes in course. Launched and stewarded by a startup and now as a development community, AirSwap demonstrates that self-sustaining open-source software can be a powerful and effective model for Web3.
2024: A shift to growth 🍾
Thanks to our contributors, community, and fans for dedicating their time, attention, and energy toward a future powered by trustless technologies. As we turn the year on yet a new foundation, expect a shift to growth — attention toward integrations and adoption — as more trading firms enter the space, aggregators come online, and NFT communities take the power into their own hands with decentralized marketplaces.
